The quick answer
Match the fix to the failure. A proxy error, buffering video, expired subscription and Live TV Home warning need different checks. Compare one connection change at a time, verify your browser’s public IPv4, and test Hulu itself. A working IP checker is useful evidence, but it is not proof that Hulu can play.
1. Start with the exact error
Take a screenshot or write down the message before changing settings. Hulu groups BYA-403-011 and P-EDU101 under its anonymous-proxy error guidance. These codes deserve a connection check, but they do not tell you which specific part of your setup caused the rejection.
- Proxy or location error: try a residential US IP, then reopen Hulu and test playback. Try it free for 3 days .
- Buffering, freezing or poor quality: check the player, device and network performance.
- Login, billing or activation problem: check the account and subscription first.
- Live TV Home error: review your designated Home network and device check-in.
Try another episode or title as well. Note whether the problem affects everything, one program, the app only, or the browser only. That distinction gives support something useful to investigate.
2. Compare one thing at a time
Keep the same device, Hulu account and title. If you are in Hulu’s supported territory, try playback with the VPN disconnected, then reconnect and repeat. Fully close and reopen the player between attempts. Record the result instead of changing several settings at once.
If playback succeeds on your ordinary connection but fails through the VPN, you have identified a connection-dependent difference. That does not prove an IP blacklist or identify a particular detection method. If both attempts fail, continue with the device, account and Home checks below.

3. Check the IPv4 your browser uses
- Open What is my IP? on the device you are troubleshooting, before connecting the VPN.
- Select Save as before to keep the initial result for comparison.
- Connect the VPN, return to the same tab and select Check again.
- Compare the public IPv4 and estimated country, then test playback in the actual Hulu app or browser.
An unchanged IPv4 means the checker is still seeing the same exit address. Check that the intended device and browser are included in your VPN routing. A changed address confirms a change for that request; a US country result is an estimate, not an access test.
Selective routing matters. Some connections send only selected domains through a residential route. The checker can then show a US IP while Hulu requests take another path. This tool checks IPv4 only: it does not test IPv6, classify an address as residential, or prove the route of every Hulu request.
4. Rule out an app or browser problem
Check for both Hulu app updates and device-system updates. Hulu recommends keeping them current for improvements and bug fixes. Use the instructions for your device, and confirm its exact model appears in the supported-device list.
On a computer, try an up-to-date supported browser. Hulu lists Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge, with HTML5, JavaScript and cookies enabled. If Hulu requests location access, check the browser’s site permission. Hulu also describes enabling location services when its site will not load. Browser and computer requirements.
For Hulu.com stability problems, follow Hulu’s browser-cache instructions. For the app, use its device-specific cache and data guidance. Treat this as player troubleshooting, not a way to change account eligibility or remove a location restriction.
5. Separate account issues from Live TV Home
Check that you are signing into the intended account, that its subscription is active, and that the plan includes what you are trying to watch. If a payment or activation message appears, follow the account or biller’s instructions. A successful VPN connection cannot repair a declined payment; Hulu’s agreement says failed payment can lead to suspended access. Subscription and payment terms.
Hulu + Live TV has an additional Home requirement. Hulu requires a designated residential, non-mobile internet network. Its agreement says mobile devices should access the service from that Home location every 30 days for uninterrupted use. Check Home and travel requirements before treating a Live TV error as an ordinary proxy problem. Live TV Home rules, section 4(f).
A residential VPN address describes a connection type. It does not automatically become your account’s designated Home network.
6. Know what a different US connection can change
A residential US IP can provide a different network exit from a typical datacenter VPN. Our residential IP guide explains the distinction. Before trying another service, check device support, which traffic follows its residential route, and the trial’s renewal terms.
Use the trial to test your actual device, account and intended title. Keep the same comparison notes. A US IP does not include a Hulu subscription, and “residential” does not guarantee Hulu will accept the connection.
7. Give support a useful test result
For an unresolved problem, share the exact error, device model, app or browser version, physical country, title tested, and whether the result changes with the VPN disconnected. For Live TV, include whether you are at your designated Home. Send the relevant details privately through official support; never include your password or full payment information.

Does a US IP result mean Hulu should work?
No. It shows the public IPv4 seen by the checker. Hulu playback also depends on the account, device, location checks and the route Hulu traffic actually uses.
Should I keep switching VPN servers?
First record the error and run one controlled comparison. Repeated changes without checking the player, account and routing can make the problem harder to identify.
Will clearing cookies fix P-EDU101?
Do not assume so. Hulu recommends browser-cache maintenance for stability and performance. An anonymous-proxy or location error needs its own connection and eligibility checks.
