Does this show what every website sees?

It shows the public IPv4 address used for the request to this lookup service. Browser proxies, VPN settings, split tunneling and IPv4 or IPv6 routing can make other requests use a different address. Test the website or app you actually need as well.

Why is my IP unchanged after connecting a VPN?

Check that the VPN is connected and that its settings cover this browser. Select Check again rather than relying on an earlier result. An unchanged address alone does not identify the cause; check your connection settings or contact your provider if the result is unexpected.

Does a United States result mean my IP is residential?

No. Country and network type are separate properties. This tool does not classify residential, mobile or datacenter IPs, and it does not test anonymity or website access. Read our residential and datacenter comparison for the distinction.

Why is my IP showing the wrong country?

The country is an estimate for the public IPv4 seen by the lookup. Databases can disagree, and browser or account location can come from other signals. Follow our wrong-country troubleshooting guide to compare the same address and find the next check.

Does this check IPv4 or IPv6?

This tool checks IPv4 only, including the saved before and after comparison. Your connection may also have an IPv6 address, which this tool does not test. If the IPv4 lookup cannot complete, the result stays unavailable.

How are my IP and saved comparison handled?

The lookup sends a request from your browser to GeoJS, or to ipify if the first lookup fails. Those services receive your public IP as part of that request; see the GeoJS privacy policy and ipify’s service information. Save as before stores your comparison in this tab’s session storage, when available. You can remove it with Clear saved result or by closing the tab. Checks older than 24 hours are discarded when you use the tool. The comparison is not uploaded by this tool. The check does not request GPS or device location.
