STARZ TROUBLESHOOTING

STARZ VPN Not Working: What to Check

A STARZ login failure is not always a password problem. A VPN connection, the wrong provider sign-in, and a subscription purchased inside another channel service can lead to different access problems. Start with the exact error and where you bought STARZ.

The quick answer

For a forbidden or VPN-related message, test your normal US connection with the VPN disconnected. For playback failures, compare several titles and a second browser. For a login failure or locked content, verify whether your subscription uses the STARZ app, TV-provider authentication, or another service’s channel app.

STARZ shows a forbidden or connection message

STARZ states that it does not support VPN connections, and its forbidden-message guidance recommends turning the VPN off or using a connection without one. That is the first official comparison to make when this message appears.

The computer playback checklist also says to be in the United States and not use a VPN or proxy. If you are already on your ordinary US connection, preserve the message and explain that to support instead of assuming another password reset will resolve it.

  • Keep the same device and title while comparing connections.
  • Check whether the error appears at sign-in or only when starting a stream.
  • Do not interpret a successful sign-in as proof that every title will play.

The STARZ player fails after you sign in

STARZ recommends testing several titles, then trying another browser or device when troubleshooting computer playback. It also includes clearing browser cache in its official player checks. Have your sign-in details available before clearing site data, which can end your session.

Make the result specific: for example, the same episode fails in one browser but plays in another on the same connection. If only one episode fails everywhere, send that episode and the failure point to STARZ. If all titles fail on one device, focus your next checks on that device and its current app or browser version.

  • Record the full message before dismissing it.
  • Use the same account during comparisons so subscription access stays constant.
  • Retry after each change rather than changing the browser, network and account together.

A title has a lock or asks you to add access

STARZ explains that a lock or its account-access prompt can reflect the channels included in a cable or satellite package, including distinctions between STARZ, STARZ ENCORE and MoviePlex. Its locked-content guidance directs viewers to their provider to confirm the package.

Check the precise title, the provider shown at sign-in, and your current package. If one group of programs is locked while others work, explain that pattern to the provider. Keep a screenshot of the lock and your subscription description so support can compare what you receive with what the app reports.

  • Distinguish an upgrade prompt from a spinning or blank video player.
  • Confirm entitlement before buying STARZ a second time.

Your payment and STARZ login do not match

The official login guide distinguishes direct STARZ credentials from TV-provider sign-in and explains that some channel subscriptions do not include access to the separate STARZ app. Use the sign-in method associated with your original subscription, including Apple or Google sign-in when applicable.

Roku is a particularly useful example: STARZ purchased inside The Roku Channel is viewed through that channel service, while a subscription to the separate STARZ app follows a different route. See STARZ’s Roku explanation. Sharing the same TV does not make the two subscriptions interchangeable.

  • Read your latest receipt to identify the seller and subscription name.
  • Choose TV Provider when your eligible subscription requires that route.
  • Recover the correct account before creating another one.

Check the connection on the device you are using

Open What is my IP?, select Save as before, connect your intended VPN route and select Check again. Keep the same browser and compare the IPv4 and estimated country. Then test the actual player.

A different IPv4 confirms a change for that browser request. Selective routing can send the player and checker along different paths; a laptop result does not verify a TV app. This tool does not test IPv6, certify residential status, or establish which titles your account can watch.

If nothing changes, follow the unchanged-IP checklist. If the estimated country is unexpected, see IP location checks.

Quick questions

Why does STARZ say my password is wrong when I already pay?

First verify the subscription’s viewing route. A payment through a channel service or eligible TV provider can require a different app or provider sign-in. Repeatedly resetting a direct STARZ password will not establish access through the wrong route.

Will changing IP unlock a title excluded from my package?

A connection change does not change your subscription package. If the app shows a lock or upgrade request, confirm the title’s entitlement with STARZ or the provider that bills you before treating it as a network problem.
