How to get a US residential IP address

1. Define your task

Write down what you want to do, on which device, and why residential network characteristics matter. For example: review your own website’s US visitor experience in a desktop browser. If you only need to understand the term first, start with what a residential IP address means.

Decide whether you need one browser or other applications to use the connection. A web proxy and a VPN can cover different traffic; the service’s configuration determines the actual scope. Mozilla explains the connection methods.

2. Choose a service that matches

Ask about the US residential option specifically. Confirm supported devices, connection method, usage limits, address continuity and whether other customers can share the IP. Static and dedicated describe different properties; neither follows automatically from residential.

Before subscribing, read the current service terms and refund and cancellation policy. Check the billing period, renewal conditions and any limits that affect your intended use.

3. Record your starting point

Open VPN Observer’s IP checker in the browser you plan to use. Select Save as before to keep the public IP, estimated country and check time in that tab. Keep the tab open while you set up your connection.

Have the provider’s setup instructions and issued connection credentials ready. Check whether another VPN or proxy is already active. On a managed work device, use the connection arrangement approved for that device.

4. Set up the connection

USip VPN provides OpenVPN Connect instructions for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. Open the guide for your device and use the connection credentials from your account email. Install the client, add the connection as instructed, and switch it on.

If your app or device differs from the screenshots, request current instructions through the USip VPN support center. Use the provider’s or software publisher’s download links.

Wait for the client to report a connection, then continue to the browser checks below. This workflow is based on the provider’s public documentation; it is not a report of a connection we have personally tested.

5. Verify the result

Return to the IP checker tab and select Check again. Compare the current result with your saved before result, then check the application you actually intend to use. If you closed the tab, open a new IP check and save a new baseline before testing again.

Treat location results as estimates. Different databases can disagree, and a city label does not prove an exact physical location. MaxMind explains these limits.

A network operator’s name alone is also insufficient proof of residential classification: one network can carry both ISP and hosting ranges. IPinfo describes this classification issue. If results conflict, give support the details and ask for clarification.

If something looks wrong

Authentication fails: use the username and password supplied in your account email, as described in the USip VPN setup instructions. Enter them exactly as supplied and contact support if they are rejected.

The public IP is unchanged: confirm the intended connection is active, refresh the lookup and ask support whether your browser’s traffic should use that connection. Record the app version and exact error, if any.

A website still rejects the connection: separate that website’s requirements from the IP check. A US residential IP does not guarantee access. Ask the destination’s support about its requirements before changing more settings.

When requesting help, include your device, connection time and observed result. Keep passwords and connection files out of public posts.
