The quick answer
A US VPS does not unlock every item in a Vudu or Fandango library on every device. Check the account and rental status, then use a supported local player before judging the server route. Fandango’s current policy specifies US access, compatible devices and content-protection requirements. Fandango streaming policy.
Vudu, Fandango at Home and the current Fandango name
Old bookmarks and device menus can make an account problem look like a network problem. Vudu’s official rebrand announcement said customers retained their libraries and existing credentials when the service became Fandango at Home. In July 2026, Fandango announced a unified brand for movie tickets, rentals, purchases and expanded free streaming. Vudu rebrand announcement; Current Fandango brand announcement.
Start with the streaming account that contains your purchase history. A familiar movie poster on a public page does not establish that you have signed into that account. Check whether your library and receipts appear before investigating the VPS.
This guide uses “Fandango at Home” because that is still a common search and device label. The relevant product is Fandango’s streaming service, including the library formerly associated with Vudu.
Identify the viewing right before starting a paid movie
Write down whether you are testing a purchase, rental, linked movie or free ad-supported title. Fandango’s rental terms can include a deadline to begin and a separate period to finish viewing; the particular title’s terms govern. An IP change cannot restart that clock. Rental viewing periods.
For a rental, inspect its current status before repeated playback experiments. Use another already-available title for basic player checks when possible. Avoid treating a “Rent” button as proof that the VPS lost your purchase: confirm the account, edition and original retailer first.
If a movie was bought elsewhere and linked through Movies Anywhere, compare the original retailer and the linked library. Movies Anywhere connects eligible movies across participating retailers; that does not mean every film or television purchase transfers. How Movies Anywhere connects retailers.
A remote VPS desktop adds a second playback problem
There are two very different setups hidden inside the phrase “Vudu VPS.” One forwards traffic from your own device through a server. The other runs the browser and movie on the server and sends you its desktop image.
Use a supported local app or browser to establish a baseline. A remote virtual desktop is not automatically equivalent to that device. If your library loads but a movie is black, low quality or unable to start there, investigate the playback environment before assuming a country error.
Fandango’s policy distinguishes authorized devices and protected-content requirements. Its UHD help also requires compatible equipment for that format. A higher-bandwidth server does not establish that the browser and display environment support the purchased quality. Device and content-security requirements; Fandango UHD compatibility.
The practical test is to remove the remote-desktop layer and play on your normal device. Do not try to disable content protection to make a server player work.
Compare the route using the same entitled title
Once the account and local player are confirmed, test the connection. Where normal US access is available, use the same title on the same device with the VPS tunnel disconnected and connected. Record whether the failure is a location message, a player error or repeated buffering.
If the normal connection works and the VPS repeatedly fails, the route is relevant. If both fail at the same point, revisit the rental, player and title. If you are outside the service area and direct playback is unavailable, that is not a clean test of the VPS’s speed or reliability.
Remember that a rented server can have a US address without a residential exit network. A dedicated IP means it is assigned for your use; it does not describe it as a household ISP connection. Our residential versus datacenter IP comparison explains the terminology.
Choose a connection alternative without rebuying your library
A Residential US IP is relevant when you are evaluating another US connection for the working local player and account you already have. It can replace the hosting-network route you were testing; it does not add movie licenses, renew rentals or correct an unsupported playback environment.
Keep your existing account and a known available title for that comparison. Judge the result by the actual movie playing, rather than an IP-check page or the appearance of the library. Residential classification alone cannot guarantee Fandango access or a particular video quality.
For missing purchases, account recovery and broader playback failures, continue with the Fandango at Home troubleshooting guide. Report the title, purchase source, account and device when contacting support; those details help separate a library issue from a connection issue.

If your local player and library are ready but the VPS route is the problem, compare Residential US IP options. Keep your existing Fandango account and check the same entitled movie; the connection is separate from rentals and purchases.
Questions about Fandango at Home and VPS access
Can a new US IP restore an expired Fandango rental?
No. The title’s rental status and viewing period belong to the account, not the address used to connect.
Why does my library appear but the movie fail on a remote VPS?
A library page and protected video have different requirements. Try a supported local player to separate remote-browser compatibility from the network route.
Do I need to buy my Vudu movies again after the name change?
The Vudu-to-Fandango at Home announcement preserved libraries and credentials. Check the existing streaming account and purchase history before buying a duplicate.
