The quick answer
A US VPS cannot restore the discontinued Canadian discovery+ service or move a Rogers subscription into the US app. Establish the product, biller and player first. If the correct US service fails specifically through a datacenter connection, a Residential US IP becomes a relevant connection alternative to evaluate.
For Canadian accounts, check the 2026 service change first
Warner Bros. Discovery closed its Canadian discovery+ service on February 17, 2026. The replacement service is operated by Rogers Sports & Media and uses a new website and app. That makes an old Canadian installation a different diagnostic case from a working US account encountering a connection error. Official Canadian transition notice.
Rogers separately directs customers to its new app and subscription process. Follow the instructions for the company that actually bills you: the transition notice treats Prime Video Channels and other providers separately, so a blanket instruction to pay again would be wrong. Rogers app guidance.
Check the publisher shown on your app-store listing, the website in the address bar, and your latest receipt. An app that cannot recognize a migrated account is not evidence that you need a different US server.
Write down the product before troubleshooting the IP
Use a short description that another person could reproduce: “US discovery+ website, direct account,” “discoveryplus.ca, Rogers account,” or “discovery+ inside Prime Video.” The word discovery+ by itself is too ambiguous for a useful server test.
- US direct service: use its account, current app and US support information.
- Rogers Canada: follow the Canadian product’s activation and app instructions.
- A channel purchase: start in the platform where that channel is billed and watched.
- Another national service: confirm that service’s own app and travel rules.
The US help page still discusses cross-border travel, while the Canadian transition notice documents a replacement product. We would not treat the older travel wording as confirmation that a new Rogers account automatically works in the US app. Ask the relevant service to confirm portability if that is your actual question. What your VPS changes—and what stays with the account
A VPS is a rented virtual server. If you run a VPN tunnel on it, the playback device can send traffic through that server’s network. The account, subscription platform and installed player remain separate.
Choosing a US server location is therefore not the same as buying the US discovery+ product. Nor does an exclusive server address become residential merely because you are its only user. A conventional hosting IP and a home-ISP address describe different network origins; see residential versus datacenter IP.
Do not confuse a tunnel with watching inside a remote server browser, either. In the latter case you are testing the server’s playback environment as well as its connection. Use a current local app or browser for the first comparison so those two variables are not mixed.
Use the failure itself to choose the next step
Account not found or subscription required: return to the receipt and app publisher. Confirm that you are entering credentials for that exact service. Buying an IP connection will not activate an ended subscription.
A show is missing but other episodes play: check the catalog and viewing platform. Record the series, season and episode; a search result for another market does not establish that your account includes it.
A location message appears only on the VPS route: keep the player and account fixed and compare another available connection. Where direct viewing is available, test the same included episode with the tunnel disconnected. A repeatable difference is useful evidence of a connection issue, without proving how discovery+ classified the address.
Video stalls on every connection: investigate the app, device or service before moving servers. The discovery+ troubleshooting guide separates these paths. If direct viewing is unavailable in your location, record that limitation rather than calling it a failed speed comparison.
Choose a US connection only for the US viewing goal
For someone intentionally using the US service, a Residential US IP is an alternative to routing through an ordinary hosting server. It may be worth evaluating once the account and playback checks point to the connection, especially if maintaining your own VPS was only a means to watch.
For someone trying to repair the new Canadian app, changing to a US address is not the product migration procedure. Resolve the app and account first. This distinction avoids spending on a new connection while the original problem remains untouched.
When comparing connection options, use the same discovery+ product and a known included episode. A working sign-in page is not the whole test; check playback and normal use on your chosen device.
Your next US connection
Need a connection for US discovery+?
Explore Residential US IP options when your goal is the US service and the connection is the part you need to change. Keep your discovery+ subscription and supported viewing app in place; a new IP does not migrate an account or guarantee playback.
Questions about discovery+ and VPS access
Can a US VPS bring back the old Canadian discovery+ app?
No. The operator’s closure and replacement-app process are service changes. Use the current instructions for your billing provider.
Should every Canadian discovery+ customer subscribe again?
No blanket rule is appropriate. The official transition notice separates direct subscriptions, Prime Video Channels and other providers. Check your own billing route.
Why does discovery+ still fail when my VPS shows a US IP?
The IP check does not verify the account, app, catalog, playback environment or acceptance of that network. Identify which of those is failing before replacing the server.
