The quick answer
Use the current service through which you receive SHOWTIME programming. For Paramount+, confirm the account and plan there; for a TV-provider or channel subscription, check that provider’s viewing route. Diagnose a VPN message or playback error only after confirming that you are in the correct, active app.

First identify which service is rejecting the connection
SHOWTIME’s official closure notice confirms the standalone service ended. Changing networks cannot restore that discontinued service. Note the app name and website address before treating a failed sign-in as a regional restriction.
If you are watching through Paramount+ and receive its VPN or proxy message, Paramount’s official guidance says to disable that connection. If you did not configure a VPN or proxy, it advises asking your internet provider to verify your IP address. A message in another provider’s app needs that provider’s support instructions.
- Record the exact app, error and country where you are watching.
- Test the current app on your ordinary connection before changing account settings.
An old app fails, or a current app will not play
An installation that still says SHOWTIME is not proof that its former streaming service remains usable. The app retirement notice directs viewers toward Paramount+. Start by confirming your present viewing provider; repeatedly reinstalling the retired app does not create current access.
If you are already in an active provider app, try a second SHOWTIME title and a title from another part of that service. Then compare the failing episode on another device. Keep the same account and connection for this comparison so you can distinguish a title-specific failure from one that affects the whole app.
- Check for updates to the current app and reopen it before testing again.
- Note whether the problem affects one episode, all SHOWTIME content, or everything.

SHOWTIME titles are missing or locked
The current US Paramount+ plan comparison describes Premium as including all of SHOWTIME, while Essential includes selected SHOWTIME series. Older help pages use the former Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan name. Read your current account details rather than assuming any Paramount+ subscription carries the same catalog.
Search for the precise series, season and episode in the app where your subscription is active. If a lock or upgrade prompt appears, capture it and check your plan or provider package. A title that is absent or excluded from a package needs an entitlement check before another network experiment.
- Confirm the offer and catalog for your actual country and provider.
- Ask support about the specific title and package shown on your receipt.
Your former SHOWTIME login does not work
The historical SHOWTIME migration explanation described different arrangements for different billing providers. Do not assume a former SHOWTIME email and password automatically establish a current Paramount+ account, or that a TV-channel subscription uses the same sign-in route.
Look for your latest receipt and identify who currently bills you. Try that provider’s official account recovery or viewing instructions. If you believe an account was transferred, search for the migration email and ask the current provider to confirm the account attached to your subscription before purchasing another plan.
- Keep the receipt date and subscription name available for support.
- Never send a password or verification code in a support screenshot.
Check the connection on the device you are using
Open What is my IP?, select Save as before, connect your intended VPN route and select Check again. Keep the same browser and compare the IPv4 and estimated country. Then test the actual player.
A different IPv4 confirms a change for that browser request. Selective routing can send the player and checker along different paths; a laptop result does not verify a TV app. This tool does not test IPv6, certify residential status, or establish which titles your account can watch.
If nothing changes, follow the unchanged-IP checklist. If the estimated country is unexpected, see IP location checks.

Quick questions
Can a different IP bring back the standalone SHOWTIME app?
No. The standalone service was discontinued. Find your current viewing provider and its active app first. Only then does it make sense to investigate a location or connection error shown by that service.
Should I subscribe again if my old login fails?
First identify any current subscription from your latest receipt. Ask that billing provider which account and app to use. A failed legacy login is not enough information to decide that you need an additional subscription.
