The quick answer
Check the app and billing provider, then compare one title on one device. A location restriction, a stalled video and a request to subscribe need different checks; a new IP does not settle all three.
Considering a residential US connection? Review the USip offer and choose a plan for your device.
1. Identify a real MGM+ location warning
The publisher’s current MGM+ app listing says the US app is accessible in the United States and certain US territories. If you see a location message, record the exact wording and whether you are using this app or a partner platform. A similarly named international offer should not be assumed to use the same account or catalogue.
Within a supported location, compare the same MGM+ title and device on your normal connection and the intended VPN connection. Fully reopen the player between attempts. If only the VPN attempt fails, the changed route is relevant; the comparison does not establish a particular detection method or prove another address will work.
- Keep the subscription, title and playback app unchanged during the comparison.
- If both attempts fail, check the player and account instead of attributing the result to the VPN alone.
2. Isolate the player, title and device
MGM+ offers both on-demand viewing and live channels in its own app, according to its publisher description. Use that distinction to narrow a failure: try an on-demand episode if a live channel stalls, or another episode if one film fails. Record whether the app closes, video remains black or playback repeatedly pauses.
Update the app through the store on the affected device, close it completely and restart the device. These are basic isolation steps, not proof of an MGM+ outage. If you watch through The Roku Channel, test its MGM+ section rather than switching to the standalone MGM+ app halfway through. Roku identifies the relevant viewing surfaces on its MGM+ page.
- Check another app on the same device to see whether the connection works generally.
- For a repeatable failure, collect the app version, device model, title, timestamp and any error code.
3. Check the exact subscription and viewing surface
Open the MGM+ collection within your paid platform and search for the exact title and season. Do not treat a search result, saved shortcut or a separate rental page as confirmation that a title is included. If one programme is missing but other MGM+ titles play, ask that platform to verify availability for the account you are using.
For television subscribers, check the subscribed package and the provider’s own app or on-demand menu. Cox describes separate TV, online and Contour viewing routes; DIRECTV also documents MGM+ provider access. Follow the route your provider actually supports rather than assuming every MGM+ logo gives identical access.
- Include the full title, season, episode and the viewing platform in an availability question.
- A missing channel entitlement or an unavailable episode is not repaired simply by changing the network exit.
4. Use the sign-in method attached to your purchase
Find the billing receipt before resetting passwords. DIRECTV explicitly tells eligible subscribers to select DIRECTV as their provider in the MGM+ app. Follow its MGM+ sign-in instructions and confirm that your package includes the add-on. A direct MGM+ password and a provider credential are not the same thing.
For an MGM+ subscription purchased inside The Roku Channel, Roku describes playback through its own supported surfaces in the Premium Subscription information. Open that subscription there first. If the standalone app asks you to subscribe, confirm the permitted access route with the biller before authorizing a duplicate payment.
- For standalone-app trouble, use the developer support contact listed on the official MGM+ app page.
- Explain who bills you and which sign-in screen fails; do not send support your password or payment-card details.
Check the connection on the device you are using
Open What is my IP?, select Save as before, connect your intended VPN route and select Check again. Keep the same browser and compare the IPv4 and estimated country. Then test the actual player.
A different IPv4 confirms a change for that browser request. Selective routing can send the player and checker along different paths; a laptop result does not verify a TV app. This tool does not test IPv6, certify residential status, or establish which titles your account can watch.
If nothing changes, follow the unchanged-IP checklist. If the estimated country is unexpected, see IP location checks.

Quick questions
Does paying for MGM+ through a platform automatically create a standalone login?
Do not assume it does. Check the viewing route supported by the company that bills you. Some television providers support provider sign-in, while a platform-channel purchase may be watched within that platform.
Does a working US IP prove MGM+ will play?
No. It does not verify your subscription, the selected title or the route used by a TV app. Test the actual MGM+ player and record the result separately.
