Can you watch HBO Max outside the US?
HBO Max is available in many countries, and supported travel does not automatically require a US IP. First identify whether you want ordinary viewing at your destination or specifically a US connection. A missing title, VPN warning and subscription prompt need different checks. Check HBO Max’s current country and travel guidance.
A title disappears when you travel
HBO Max allows streaming while visiting supported countries, but the available titles and ratings can change with location. Search the exact season and episode in the app; something saved in My List may be unavailable at your destination. A familiar HBO title on another local provider also does not establish access through your HBO Max account.
Check the profile’s viewing restrictions and whether other titles play. A missing search result alone does not diagnose a blocked IP. If HBO Max itself reports a region or VPN problem, use the connection branch below.
You see a region or VPN warning
Record whether the message says the region is unavailable or asks whether you are using a VPN. In a supported location, HBO Max’s official VPN checklist starts by disabling the VPN or proxy. A generic player error needs a different check.

The app is missing or the player fails
Check your model and software against HBO Max’s supported devices. Use the official app store; a US IP alone does not change the store account’s country. A browser working on your laptop does not test your television’s connection.

A saved episode will not play offline
Previously downloaded titles are a separate travel option, including at unsupported streaming destinations. Check that the download is on the phone or tablet you are using, has not expired and belongs to an eligible plan. A watchlist entry is not a downloaded episode.
HBO Max does not support downloads on computers or TV devices. Follow the official download and renewal instructions; changing your IP will not recover an expired download by itself.
The IP checker says US, but HBO Max still fails
What is my IP? reports the address seen by its own request. It does not prove that every HBO Max request uses the same route or that your account can play the chosen video. Test on the actual watching device.
Use US IP but streaming still blocked for that result, or open Streaming Doctor with HBO Max selected. Keep the title, error and account provider handy so the next check addresses the failure you see.
